The Brighton Marathon Weekend is an exciting three day running event in one of Britain’s most cosmopolitan cities, comprising an Event Village on the beach across the whole weekend, the Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Mini Mile Races on the Saturday, and culminating on Sunday with the BM Ride, BM10k and Brighton Marathon.
The inaugural Brighton Marathon was set up by former international athlete Tim Hutchings and former Brighton club athlete, Tom Naylor as The Grounded Events Company. The first running of the race took place on 18th April 2010 and since its inauguration in 2010, the marathon has dramatically developed.
With over 11,500 finishers in the Marathon, Brighton Marathon is the UK’s second largest marathon.
Renowned for its buzzing atmosphere and roaring crowd support, the race starts in Preston Park and the route takes in the best of the city past many stunning and famous landmarks such as the Royal Pavilion, the Pier, the Bandstand and the Peace Statue before finishing on the Seafront. Crowds line the entire route, making Brighton Marathon one of the most atmospheric marathon routes in the world.
In 2014 the super-fast BM10k was added to the Brighton Marathon Weekend portfolio and immediately stamped its importance on the rankings with the second fastest time in the country for 2014.
This exciting curtain raiser to the Brighton Marathon saw a larger field in 2018, and allows those who prefer a shorter distance the opportunity to experience the amazing atmosphere of Brighton Marathon Weekend. With a fast, flat course, it passes through the city streets, along the first section of the marathon route, also finishing on the seafront adjacent to the Brighton Marathon Weekend Event Village.
For the first time, we will be welcoming participants from 17 years old to take part in the BM10k 2019.
In 2019, a cycle was introduced into the Brighton Marathon Weekend, starting a few hours before the BM10k and Brighton Marathon, BM Ride will offer cyclists of all abilities the exclusive opportunity to enjoy the sights of Brighton city centre and the seafront on closed roads over a 50km distance. Whether a keen cyclist who is heading out for a group ride, a family wanting to ride together or someone looking for a new challenge, BM Ride will has something for everyone.
Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Mini Mile Races
The Mini Mile Races take place on the Saturday before the marathon and are a series of age related races open to 7 – 17 year olds.
With an ever growing Event Village and one mile looped course based in Preston Park, where the Marathon and BM10k start the next day, youngsters can immerse themselves in the excitement of the Brighton Marathon Weekend with an event all of their own. Boasting a fast, accurately measured course, all races are chip timed and on-stage prize presentations for the winners take place throughout the day.
Now one of the largest youth races in the UK, the Mini Mile Races gives youngsters the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a mass-participation event. Well-organised with a professional feel, the event continues to inspire and nurture young talent.
A 3-day Event Village is open throughout the Brighton Marathon Weekend from the Friday through to Race Sunday.
The Event Village is the exciting kick start to the weekend, offering an array of things to enjoy from shopping to food and drink, fun activities, big screens and our 2XU Recovery Zone, with running experts offering tips and advice.
At the Marathon and BM10k Finish, repatriation takes place in the unique Event Village and welcomes spectators and runners alike. Here they can relax on deck chairs in front of big screens watching the action unfold while taking advantage of the food and drink on offer.
In 2019, the charity village was fully booked with 55 charities booked a marquee in the charity village to meet their runners and thank them for their support and fundraising. In October 2020, we will be taking charity marquee bookings for Brighton Marathon Weekend 2021.
