Terms & Conditions and Rules of the Race
The BM10k 2019 is organised and administered by The Grounded Events Company Limited (Co. No.6363644) whose registered office is at Preston Park House, South Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 6SB (“we” or “us” which expression includes our employees, event officials, authorised agents, sub-contractors or volunteers)
Participants accept that the BM10k should only be undertaken by those of adequate physical fitness and those who have undertaken an appropriate training regime. It is your responsibility to seek appropriate medical advice prior to participation. Participation in the event is entirely at your own risk and, by entering the event, participants acknowledge that we shall not be liable for death, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in the event save to the extent that it is caused by our negligence.
You confirm that all details provided by you in the registration form are true, and that you understand and agree with these Terms & Conditions, and Rules of the Race.
Injuries and Personal health and fitness
By signing up to take part in this event you accept complete responsibility for any injury or accident which may occur while you are travelling to or from the event, during the event, or while on the premises of the event save to the extent any injury or accident is caused by our negligence.
You understand that participating in this event is potentially hazardous, and you should not enter and participate unless you are medically able and properly trained.
We recommend that you consult your doctor prior to undertaking training for a 10k. It is your responsibility to make sure you are medically fit and capable of running the BM10k. We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to stop any runner from taking part if we deem him or her unfit to run, including mid-race removal from the course where necessary.
Medical treatment while attending the Brighton Marathon
By entering this event, you are confirming that should you require any medical treatments during your attendance at the event, whether before, during or after the actual run, they may be administered by the events’ official medically qualified personnel.
Participants must be 17 years of age and over in order to enter this event.
You must not under any circumstances give your race number to anyone else. Amongst other potential problems, doing so may cause problems of identification for the event medical services in the case of any accident or injury. Any attempt to do so will result in immediate disqualification of the individual(s) concerned and ejection from the event.
Refunds, Transfers and Deferred Entries
Cancellations and Transfers
At any time prior to 5pm on the 30 November 2018, you may cancel your entry into the event by contacting us in writing. In such circumstances, you will receive a full refund of your entry fee.
Alternatively, you may, by contacting us in writing prior to 5pm on the 30 November 2018, transfer your entry to another runner. Any such transfer will be made by us re-registering the entry in the name of the alternative runner who will be required to accept the terms and conditions of entry prior to the transfer being completed.
Cancellation and transfers are not possible unless we receive your written request prior to 5pm on the 30 November 2018.
Please note that it is not possible to defer your 2019 BM10k entry to the 2020 event if you are unable to run.
Race Numbers and Packs
Race packs and participant t-shirts are to be collected from the Brighton Marathon Event Village, as agreed by you within the registration form. This will take place on Brighton Beach, with Race Pack collection being available on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April 2019.
Your race number and colour, and start corral, relate to your predicted finishing time. You will be able to select which corral to start in when you collect your pack.
Please complete the relevant medical details on the back of the race number if you have any medical condition or are taking any medication(s). Under no circumstances are you allowed to sell or give your race number to someone else and any attempt to do so will result in your entry being cancelled.
Travelling to and from the event
You are entirely responsible for all travel to and from the event and we will not be liable if you miss the start of the event as a result of any transportation delays. In these circumstances, you must allow plenty of time in order to make sure that you arrive so as to be entirely ready to run when the event starts.
Cancellation and Alterations to the event
We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to cancel, delay, alter or shorten the course, or postpone the event due to unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances outside of our reasonable control. In such cases, we will endeavour to inform participants as quickly as is possible.
Where the event has to be cancelled, delayed, altered or postponed due to circumstances outside of our reasonable control (including for the avoidance of doubt due to adverse weather conditions or as a result of instructions from the emergency services or local authority) we shall not be liable for any inconvenience, expenses, costs, losses or damages suffered by participants.
Where the event has to be cancelled, delayed, altered or postponed due to circumstances that were within our reasonable control, our entire liability in respect of any inconvenience, expenses, costs, losses or damages suffered by you as a result will be limited to the entry price you have paid to take part in the event.
Animals will not be permitted on the BM10k course. We are unable to allow guide dogs on the course but can offer a free place to guide runners.
Bikes, stilts, roller skates, skate boards, buggies, etc.
Participants are not permitted to use any of the above or similar in the event and those attempting to do so will be prohibited from starting and may be forcibly removed from the course, including mid-race where necessary. Likewise, anyone attempting to start or join the race in any outfit that we, in our absolute discretion, deem unsuitable and/or dangerous to other competitors or spectators, will not be allowed to start the event or, if on the course, may be forcibly removed from the event.
Non-racing wheelchair users are welcome to take part in the BM10k, however, we currently do not offer elite wheelchair races or allow racing wheelchairs.
If you wish to enter in a non-racing wheelchair, you will start at the rear of the race for carefully considered health & safety reasons associated with the course terrain and density of runners in sections of the race.
We also strongly advise that you are accompanied by an able-bodied runner throughout the event to support you for the above reasons but you can take part independently if you wish. We can assist with finding someone to accompany you if you are unable to do so.
If you have an accompaniment, they must register for the event and have a race number. They will be allocated a complimentary place in the event by the organiser.
All wheelchair users take part on the understanding that they will be held strictly and solely liable if found to be responsible for harm to themselves or any third party or parties, or damage to any property during the race.
If you wish to enter as a non-racing wheelchair user, or you wish to assist an entrant in a wheelchair, please email email@example.com.
Music while running
We will not stop you from using a personal music-playing device whilst participating, but for health and safety reasons we strongly recommend that you do not.
It is important that you are able to hear what is happening around you; this is particularly important in order to allow our emergency services and their vehicles to operate safely on the day which they may not be able to do if you are unable to hear what is happening around you throughout the event.
Consequently, we recommend that iPods, MP3 Players or similar electronic music players should not be worn. You will be held strictly and solely liable if found to be responsible for any harm to yourself or any third party or parties or damage to any property (whether yours or that of a third party) which arises as a result of you wearing any personal music playing device in contradiction of this advice.
We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to refuse to allow you to participate in the event either at the start or to continue participation at any point along the route of the event, should you be deemed to behave inappropriately or give cause for concern that your continued participation may cause offence or injury to yourself, any spectators or other competitors.
This includes the wearing of any clothing or visual messages that may cause offence. Failure to comply with any instruction from race officials and marshals will result in ejection from the race and may also result in you being reported to the police.
Only those who finish the BM10k will be entitled to a Finisher’s Medal and goody bag. Please do not ask for more than one as marshals have been instructed to only issue one per person and your receiving more than one will deny another Finisher from receiving one or more of these items.
We provide various pieces of merchandise for purchase in connection with the event. These can be purchased at the time of booking or by signing back in to your registration/account. Please note that we process orders such that we expect to be able to supply the same to you within one month of the order being placed. Please note that we are unable to guarantee delivery times and that any merchandise ordered within the period of one month prior to the event may not be delivered to you until after the event.

By taking part in the event you grant full and irrevocable permission to us, as organisers of the BM10k, and any third parties authorised by us to use any photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, website images, recordings or any other record of this event that may include your image.

Your personal information will only be used by us and any appointed third parties for purposes in connection with the event and any subsequent events that we may organise or administer.
You will only be emailed as per the permissions that you have given within the registration form.
By entering the event you grant full and irrevocable permission for us to pass any medical details you have given us to the medical teams operating on the day of the event.
Change of postal address, email address or telephone number(s)
